LIVING IN SPACE: THE COLONIES, 2084

Sherry E. Bell, PhD

ABSTRACT

This is a science fiction story based in the year 2084. Following the planet Earth being hit by a comet, thriving human settlements have been established on Space faring vehicles, the Moon, Mars and on Orbiters. The story is told by the Administrator of the Mars Colony. It is in the form of a formal report. Broadly speaking, sex, drugs, and rock and roll are discussed. Topics covered include: how the colonies came to be, sex and reproduction, genetic modification, pair bonds, the settlers, and music and art. Also incorporated are descriptions of the habitats, governances, and objectives of the various colonies. The story is optimistic and hopeful and celebrates human ingenuity and spirit. It concludes with a statement that the colonies have become an independent yet interconnected civilization of peace.
